She thoughtfully lays out the dress and shoes she will wear. Next she chooses just the right shades of makeup, mascara and lipstick. After, she fixes her hair just so, with meticulous care she fixes her face, lashes and lips. When she finally puts on her dress and shoes she is something to behold!
She is glamorous; men flock to her attractions! Everything about her is designed to make her appealing and enticing; and all for profit and gain! She is a whore, about to walk the streets. We read about her in Proverbs 7: ‘Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death’ (Proverbs 7:27).
She is a picture of much modern ‘Christianity’. She is the ‘Great Whore’ of Revelation who sits upon many waters, encompassing the nations. She is ‘Mystery, Babylon the Great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth’ (Revelation 17:1, 5, 15). She is what passes for the ‘church’ in cities and towns across the United States and throughout the world.
Everything about her is planned and designed to accentuate the flesh! That is, to make her appealing and enticing to unregenerate human nature; and how often it is all for earthly profit and financial gain!
Brothers and sisters, behold and wonder! Weep and tremble for the souls of men and women. Behold the beautiful buildings with their high steeples and stained glass windows, and ask yourself WHY? Observe the crosses and pictures of Jesus; admire the beautifully robed choirs; and ask yourself WHY?
Behold the clowns, the ventriloquists, the worldly famous personalities, the plays and dramas. Wonder at the promotional schemes, the gimmicks, the door and seat prizes, and so on. And ask yourself WHY?
Ask yourself, is this the will of God? Is it the way of God? Can this be the work of God? Does this serve the glory of God? Surely not. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, about true worship which is appealing to the flesh, the natural man (1 Corinthians 2:14; Romans 8:5-8).
