Major doubts now surround the contentious bill which aims to legalise assisted suicide bill in England and Wales, after the bill’s sponsor — Kim Leadbeater MP (pictured) — announced a big delay in the bill’s implementation.

If the bill does get passed by Parliament — and that’s a big “if” — it won’t likely be implemented until 2029, after the next General Election. A new government could decide to drop it altogether. However, there are no guarantees about that. So it is still vital that the bill is stopped before it becomes law.

The Committee Stage of the bill's so-called 'scrutiny' has finished. All MPs are expected to consider the bill again on Friday 25 April, with the bill’s supporters suggesting that the crucial Third Reading vote could be on Friday 16 May.
