Australia’s health minister Mark Butler has ordered a countrywide review of the use of puberty blockers for gender-confused children and young people.
Butler, who under Prime Minister Julia Gillard served as minister for ageing and Australia’s first minister for mental health until 2013, said the review came amid concerning reports.
News agencies claim that children as young as 12 have been prescribed puberty blockers without parental consent in Queensland. The state has been asked to no longer pursue its own analysis of gender services, in light of the national review.
