The Charity Commission has announced it is formally investigating Barnabas Aid, the multi-million pound organisation which helps suffering and persecuted Christians worldwide.

As reported in the previous edition of ET, the charity is in turmoil after the suspension of several senior leaders, including its founder, Patrick Sookhdeo.

Since then, it has been announced that the organisation is under spending restrictions imposed as part of a statutory inquiry launched by the Charity Commission.

However, the Commission emphasised that the opening of an inquiry does not necessarily mean there has been any finding of wrongdoing.

At the end of September, the Daily Telegraph reported that thousands of pounds had been splurged on corporate bank cards, and the newspaper also claimed that internal documents show there could be a £15 million gap in the finances.
