The Home Secretary Suella Braverman has written to police forces reminding them that silent prayer is not, in itself, a crime.
She also said painting police cars in LGBT rainbow colours, or questioning people who express disagreement with transgenderism, makes the police look biased.
She has, therefore, commissioned a review into activism and impartiality in the police.
In a letter to all police chiefs in England and Wales she praised officers for their bravery and dedication.
But she said public confidence in the police is shaken when officers appear to take sides in the culture wars.
