A small Canadian town and its mayor have been ordered to pay CA$15,000 (£8,306) for refusing to celebrate ‘Pride’ month.

Although the Mayor of Emo, Harold McQuaker, refused to pay his $5,000 (£2,700) of the sum and attend the re-thinking training mandated on him by the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, authorities allowed his bank account to be raided for the amount.

The Corporation of the Township of Emo is also having to pay up its own share of the costs to Borderland Pride, the activist group which brought the case against Emo town council.
