Celebrity scandal
On 30 September 2012, news broke that the charitable, jovial, church-going Sir Jimmy Savile, who died in October 2011, had reportedly sexually attacked at least ten women during the 1960s and 1970s.
One of the alleged victims was reported to have been aged 14 at the time; another woman came forward a few days later alleging rape: she was 16 at the time.
Then, on 3 October 2012, ITV1 broadcast a documentary, Exposure: the other side of Jimmy Savile, researched and presented by former police detective Mark Williams-Thomas.
Since then, many more claims have emerged. The man who raised nearly £40 million for charity during his lifetime, who received the OBE in 1971 and a knighthood in 1990, is being investigated under intense suspicion that he was a pervert whose personality prevented him from being challenged during his lifetime.
