Christian teacher speaks of ‘mark against her name’

A teacher found guilty of ‘unacceptable professional conduct’ for sharing Christian beliefs in a Church of England school has spoken of her fears for future employment.

Gladwys Leger, 43, had been a specialist modern foreign languages teacher for 12 years before she was sacked by Bishop Justus CofE School in Bromley, Kent, in May 2022.

This led to a series of hearings, the most recent being one in front of the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), which upheld the dismissal but did not ban her from teaching in the UK.

Responding to the decision, Leger said, ‘While they have not banned me, they have placed a significant mark against my name which future prospective employers will see.
