The Church of England’s ruling body, the General Synod, has voted in favour of starting a three-year trial to allow special services for same-sex marriage blessings.

At present, such blessings are only allowed as part of regular church services, but now stand-alone special services for same-sex couples could be seen in a three-year trial starting in 2025.

The General Synod, meeting in York, voted by 216 to 191 to back the move proposed by bishops.
