The summer riots following the Southport stabbings were awful. The hatred spewed out by both sides during some of the Gaza protests has been ugly. But the government’s response to clamp down on people’s speech and beliefs is dangerous and misguided. It will not deter the thugs who will carry on saying and doing what they want. It will only serve to limit ordinary people’s free speech and civil liberties, including those of churches.
