This story just about sums up where our two-tier culture is at. LGBTQ+ rainbows = good and should be promoted. “I love Jesus” = bad and should be banned. In case you’re not a football fan, the Premier League and its clubs are celebrating LGBTQ+ inclusion at all their fixtures between 29 November and 5 December 2024. The “rainbow laces” campaign (organised by Stonewall) includes all captains wearing rainbow coloured armbands.

But Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi got a permanent marker and wrote “I love Jesus” on top of his. In response, the Football Association is to remind the Crystal Palace captain and the Selhurst Park club that religious messaging on their kit is banned. The FA is doing this with a completely straight face, not in the least bit ashamed of the obvious double standards.
