This book is the third in a series from Union (see www.uniontheology.org for details). The aim of the series is to produce short, accessible theological books, and this offering is no exception.
In the words of the author, this little book concentrates ‘upon the conflict as it rages between fear and faith, perhaps the commonest battle of all in the lives of most believers’ (p.11).
Using the account of Jesus calming the storm, the book aims to show how the battle against fear can be won. We ‘might emerge from the spiritual paralysis that fear brings and instead enjoy the spiritual progress that comes from fearless faith’ (p.11). Mr Stephen calls this incident in the life of Jesus ‘a faith training exercise for his future apostles’ (p.12).
Each chapter looks at a different aspect of this miracle, seeking to apply it in a faith-building way. The reader is helped to have confidence in Christ. It is readable and could be given to babes in Christ or those going through one of the many storms of life.
I found the book helpful and thought-provoking, and have no hesitation recommending it.
