A politically partisan campaign to promote a radical LGBT agenda in football breaches the game’s own rules about impartiality on political issues, a solicitor has warned.
The ‘Rainbow Laces’ project is run by radical gay rights group Stonewall and is backed by the Football Association, which governs the game in England.
The project has been running since 2013. In 2024, it was held from 16 November to 4 December, and players were asked to wear Stonewall-supplied laces and armbands as an expression of their ‘commitment’ to the LGBT cause.
But one Muslim player, Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy, refused to wear a rainbow armband. And Christian player Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace wrote ‘I love Jesus’ over the top of his rainbow armband.
