When did you last see a sunrise? Looking east, everything remains dark at first. Gradually, a glowing orange ribbon spreads across the horizon. The light brightens and is then focused in one particular spot. Slowly but surely, the top of a red disc begins peeping above the horizon.
The sky continues to change, as dark skies burn red and orange. Light spreads farther and grows brighter. Day approaches. The rays of the sun soon fall on the fields, the trees, the houses, and the hedgerows. Streetlamps switch off; the birds begin singing; the air grows warmer. Everywhere is flooded with the light. The dark gloomy night is forgotten. There is joy in the air. Daylight has come!
Christmas light
Christmas is all about light coming into a dark world. In the Bible, the Lord Jesus Christ is given many titles, and one of these is ‘the light of the world’. To understand why Jesus is called the light of the world, we must understand how dark the world is without him.
What happens when it is dark? One challenge is that you cannot see where you are going. You cannot see any dangers that are in front of you. You cannot see where the good things are that you need. You also cannot see how dirty you are. You cannot see if there is anyone there to help you!
