A Christian school provider in Germany has filed a case with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) after its accreditation was denied.

The Association for Decentralised Learning, which is a hybrid education provider offering in-school and at-home education, originally applied for accreditation in 2014.

But despite fulfilling all the state-mandated criteria and curricula, the Laichingen-based provider was denied approval.

The Association claimed its initial application was ignored by state educational authorities for three years. Eventually, in 2017, they filed a lawsuit due to the inaction.

But the first court hearing did not take place until 2019, the appeal in 2021, and the third-instance court decision in May 2022.

The Association demanded to know why its approval was denied, considering it has been running a successful independent hybrid school for nine years.
