Humphrey was born in 1934 in London, the third child to Frank and Ivy Mildred. Frank was a Baptist minister, as was his father, and in time Humphrey would follow suit.
In the 1950s, Humphrey joined the Royal Navy for his National Service. While there, a close friend was converted, and such was the transformation in his life that Humph was really made to think. In God’s grace, this was used as the human means for Humphrey’s own conversion.
