Despite its cover of many colours, which I found a little off-putting, this book was well worth reading. Successfully and encouragingly, the author demonstrates the hand of God throughout the life of Joseph.
The book has thirteen chapters — twelve covering different aspects of the life of Joseph, and an introductory chapter, ironically called ‘Happy families’, which sets the scene for the rest of the book. One chapter is devoted to the story of Judah and Tamar, but makes clear how God was working in the lives of all the sons of Isaac in preparing for the coming of Christ.
The volume appears to be based on a series of sermons and there is some repetition, but this is generally helpful. Throughout the book the author brings out helpful insights from Joseph’s story and the family life of Isaac and his sons — insights that are relevant to our lives today.
I highly recommend this book. It is easy to read, consistently helpful, and could readily be used for group Bible study.
