Military schools
David Cameron has been urged to back the development of a network of military schools to help tackle educational failure in the UK’s poorest communities.
The report, Tackling disadvantage, improving ethos and outcomes and revitalising our armed forces, published by think-tank ResPublica, asks the Prime Minister to recognise and harness the expertise of the armed forces, and use it to create a new generation of schools.
The report claims that these military institutions can address poor discipline and educational failure in the most deprived neighbourhoods. It recommends setting up ten pilot academies in regional ‘black spots’. The Government is also asked to encourage the development of a military school in every local education authority.
