It’s exciting! It’s amazing! It’s fantastic! As incredible as it seems, yet by faith I believe it’s true. Permit me to give a testimony, a wonderful witness that I could only make by God’s sovereign grace. Here it is: ‘The God of the Bible is my God!’
Let me be specific. My God is the God of creation, the one who spoke the world into existence. The Bible begins with this marvellous statement, ‘In the beginning, God’. He is the one I worship.
My God is the God of Noah, who secured this man’s family from the Flood which came upon the world because of the awful wickedness of that generation.
My God is the God of Abraham, who was called out of the idolatrous worship in Ur of the Chaldees and sent him forth with the promise that his seed would bless the whole world.
My God is the God of Moses, who appeared first in the burning bush, and enabled this man to lift his rod over the Red Sea and see it opened up, so the Israelites could pass through.
My God is the God of Samuel, who when only a boy was called to be a prophet and proclaim the truths of God to God’s chosen people.
My God is the God of David, the amazing man who combined in his one person the power of a king, the inspiration of a prophet and the skill of a poet.
My God is the God of Isaiah, who by divine endowment peered into the future and prophesied that the coming Messiah would bear the sins of believers.
My God is the God of Daniel, who stood without compromise in the great kingdom of Babylon and was elevated to the position of governor over all the land.
My God is the God of Malachi, who ends the Old Testament with the beautiful promise that the ‘Sun of Righteousness’ would soon arise over this dark world.
Royal glory
My God is the God who emptied himself of his royal glory in heaven and came to be born by miraculous power (through a virgin) and who began his life on earth in a humble stable.
My God is the one who went to John the Baptist and was baptised in the river Jordan, as he began his ministry of preaching, healing and saving.
My God is Jesus of Nazareth, who called his disciples and sent them forth in the world to lay the foundation of his kingdom.
My God is Jesus who went about doing good, healing the sick, raising the dead, instructing his disciples so that they could be equipped to lead the multitudes to God.
My God is (I tremble as I say it) the one who loved me enough to go to Calvary’s cross and pay the debt to the law of God that I could not pay.
My God is the one who rose from the dead, having conquered sin, death and hell, and who appeared to his disciples and commissioned them to preach the gospel to the whole world.
My God is the one who poured out his Spirit on the day of Pentecost, filling the disciples with such power that they ‘turned the world upside down’, by proclaiming the gospel.
My God is the God of Saul of Tarsus, who struck down that arrogant and angry Jew and turned him into the greatest preacher who ever lived, except Jesus himself.
My God is the God of John, who in exile on the isle of Patmos saw the ascended, glorified Jesus and listened to and wrote down his message to the churches.
Friends, is it any wonder that I consider myself the most blessed man in the world, to know that the God of the Bible has saved me, walks with me and gives me hope of eternal glory. Hallelujah!
