Called to preach
The first ever Protestant Truth Society (PTS) preachers’ conference drew more than 30 men from 24 churches to learn about the preaching aspect of ministry.
The one-day conference was arranged by preachers for preachers and held late last autumn at Ebenezer Baptist Chapel, Old Hill, near Birmingham. It aimed to encourage one another in the great work of the ministry, providing in-service training for PTS Wickliffe Preachers and also open to other preachers who wanted to attend.
There were four main sessions. The first had a historical flavour, as Dafydd Morris spoke on ‘Preaching and the 1859 revival’.
Before and after a fish and chip lunch, Gearoid Marley and Alun McNabb spoke respectively on ‘Called to preach: getting going’, and ‘Called to preach: keeping going’.
The day closed with a conference sermon preached by Roland Burrows, Ebenezer’s pastor.
Those who came seemed to appreciate both the ministry and fellowship. A selection of good books from the PTS bookshop were available for sale, and copies of the Protestant Truth magazine distributed free of charge. A set of CDs is available through the PTS bookshop.
A further PTS preachers’ conference has been arranged for Saturday 16 October at Ebenezer, Old Hill. The planned subjects and speakers are – ‘Preaching and the Scottish Reformation’ (Ian Hamilton); ‘Preaching to the saints’ (Guy Davies); ‘Preaching to sinners’ (Andrew Davies); and the conference sermon (Jeremy Brooks).
