Nigeria plans UK ‘flying bishop’

The Church of England Newspaper has reported that Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola is planning to appoint a ‘flying bishop’ in England to represent disillusioned Anglicans. The new bishop under the auspices of Nigeria could even be consecrated before the next Lambeth Conference.
A source describing himself as a ‘worker in the Nigerian diocese’ said that there were plans to appoint someone as a ‘mission co-ordinator’. Rumours regarding such a development have been circulating over the last few months, but this is the first time it has been confirmed from Nigeria.
It is believed that the appointment will be an English rather than Nigerian clergyman, following the pattern set for such appointments in the USA.
