Shrewsbury Evangelical Church
‘Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom’ were the words of worship from Psalm 145 that opened the ordination and induction service of Paul Yeulett on 14 April.
A joyful congregation of 200 joined Shrewsbury Evangelical Church (SEC) to recognise the beginning of Paul’s ministry, raising the roof with hymns of praise to our faithful God.
Iain Murray preached from Isaiah 49, urging the congregation to trust in the Lord’s promises and give thanks in the present for their sure and certain fulfilment in the future. Brian Norton of Durham Presbyterian Church then performed the ordination, speaking of Paul’s involvement in that church as member and elder, as he prepared for pastoral ministry.
As John Legg, former minister of SEC, inducted Paul, he charged the church to do all things ‘in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom’ (2 Timothy 4:1).
Elders Michael Carson and Keron Fletcher then warmly welcomed Paul into his new position. Neville Swain and Michael Holmes, representing just two of the many men who have lovingly ministered to SEC in recent years, also contributed to the service.
Paul Yeulett had previously taught at Emmanuel College in Gateshead; and studied for the ministry through a correspondence course with the Highland Theological College. He, his wife Ruth and their two young children have become a much-loved part of the congregation since moving to Shrewsbury.
The church now waits with expectation and thanksgiving for the fulfilment of God’s promises for his people, and to see what he will do in this local fellowship.
