Something to sing about
The committee of the new Christian Hymns is pleased to announce that the hymn book is now available in MP3 format. After unavoidable delays, and problems with copyright permission, patience has been rewarded. We now have, so to speak, something to sing about!
Every hymn in the new book and each verse has been played sympathetically on a piano. These recorded tunes can be downloaded into an MP3 player such as an iPod, or played on a computer (using iTunes or Microsoft Media Player). The hymn number can be keyed into the MP3 player or iPod into which the music is downloaded.
With mini-speakers set up, this facility can be used for private devotions or house groups. For public services of worship, the hymns can be played through a PA system.
Just press the button for whichever of the set tunes is preferred. After the usual opening bars, the rest of the verses follow on. And the speed and pitch can be adjusted to accommodate local preferences.
Budding composers are invited to write new tunes to the hymns and download them onto the Christian Hymns website. Some good, older hymns can take on a new lease of life in this way, so helping to preserve them. New tunes may be tried out worldwide, and the best ones will prevail. The hymn book committee hope to make such tunes more widely available in due course.
So we do have something to sing about! But the desire of the Christian Hymns committee is to stimulate the singing of far greater themes, to the glory of God.
