Westminster Theological Seminary

Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS) in Philadelphia, USA, has parted company with one of its professors.

Professor of Old Testament Peter Enns was suspended in March from teaching there. This move was precipitated by Enns’ book Inspiration and incarnation: Evangelicals and the problem of the Old Testament (Baker Book House).

The book reportedly raises questions concerning contradictions and inconsistencies in Scripture, infers that parts of the Bible are taken from the literature of Israel’s neighbouring lands, and alleges that New Testament authors take certain Old Testament passages out of context when they attribute them prophetically to Jesus Christ.

WTS’ trustees later announced that: ‘The administration and Prof. Peter Enns wish to announce that they have arrived at mutually agreeable terms, and that as of 31 July 2008 Prof. Enns will discontinue his service to Westminster Theological Seminary after fourteen years’.
