The government’s plans to clamp down on free speech following a summer of riots and protests could affect churches, Christian organisations, and individual believers.

The government has already taken a series of steps towards limiting freedom of expression in various spheres.

The education minister, Bridget Phillipson, has scrapped the previous government’s plans to introduce a new law to protect free speech in England’s universities.

Just days before the law was due to come into force, she blocked the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023 with a view to repealing the legislation altogether.

Dangerous plans to limit free speech
The government’s response to clamp down on people’s speech and beliefs is dangerous and misguided. It will not deter the thugs who will carry on saying and doing what they want. It will only serve to limit ordinary people’s free speech and civil liberties, including those of churches.
