The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has condemned Russia for violating a Christian pastor’s right to carry out a prayer meeting in his own home.
It reiterated that ‘missionary work or evangelism…is protected under Article 9’ of the European Convention on Human Rights.
In a judgment issued in March, the ECHR held that a 2016 punishment levied by Russian authorities on pastor Donald Ossewaarde for organising a peaceful prayer gathering his house in Oryol, Russia, was a clear breach of human rights.
