Churches in Scotland that publicly pray against abortion could be committing a crime if they are located within a designated ‘buffer zone’, according to planned new laws.

A bill presented to the Scottish Parliament would criminalise pro-life activity on private property, including private residences and churches, situated within the zone that could be seen or heard by others within the zone.

The proposed legislation has been introduced by Green MSP Gillian Mackay. The Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) (Scotland) Bill would create 200-metre censorship zones around hospitals and other centres where abortions take place.
