Tenth anniversary
Rev. Stephen Packham has celebrated his 10th anniversary at Southern Cross Evangelical Church, Portslade, near Brighton.
On the weekend of 25-26 February we celebrated our pastor’s anniversary with us. We had a blessed afternoon praising the Lord for his goodness to us and our pastor. There were about 70 in the congregation made up of regular worshippers, friends, ministers and visitors.
Rev. J. Winston Saunders took the service and his message was ‘God’s concern for his people’. One of our deacons gave a reflection on the past 10 years and how we have been encouraged by our pastor to use the gifts God gave us — many of us now serve the Lord in many ways of which we would never have dreamed before.
Afterwards, there was a buffet tea served, and a great time of fellowship together was had by all. Our Sunday morning service was taken by Rev. David Eaton and he spoke on Peter the apostle, telling us how he ‘messed up often’ and how our Lord still loved and used him; and that we should, as sinners, take great encouragement from this.
Also among those taking part in the weekend was a local Arabic Evangelical Church, who came and sang to us in their own language. They sang a chorus we knew and were able to sing again in English, and this made for a very friendly, praiseworthy and enjoyable time together.
