I found this a delight to read and very beneficial to me spiritually. The author attempts something which I felt was quite daunting — to sum up the Christian life in 43 short chapters. To attempt this runs a serious risk of being shallow and superficial. This book is neither, which is a great achievement.
The author’s aim is to encourage Christians to exercise faith in every circumstance of life, including church life. He says in the opening, introductory chapter, ‘Our onward progress in the life of faith depends on us grasping the truth that the strength and glory of faith lies not in anything in us, but wholly in our Lord Jesus Christ’.
Every chapter was thought-provoking and encouraging, even if, like me, some readers would not agree with his Presbyterian, paedobaptist slant on things, evident in one or two of the chapters.
I can sum up my thoughts by saying that this is a book better read than reviewed. Go out and buy it!
