Dr Renihan has produced a careful and searching brief commentary on 1 Corinthians 13. This book began as a series of sermons and retains a warm, personable, but challenging style.
It must be said that the treatment is somewhat uneven. This seems to be deliberate. Roughly one fifth is devoted to introductory chapters on the commandment to love, and the importance of this in the context of the Corinthian church. This is very good, and certainly necessary – 1 Corinthians 13 is too often seen and indeed preached as an isolated unit.
