Tim Cooper introduces us to two of the greatest Puritans, John Owen and Richard Baxter. These men did much good and left rich legacies, but their interactions with each other were fractious.

First, Baxter virtually accused Owen of being antinomian, criticising Owen in print and imputing to him a position on ‘eternal justification’ that was typical of antinomians but which Owen never held. Owen retaliated by bracketing Baxter with Arminians.
