University Christian Unions
<'everyone who calls on the name of lord will be saved'. how, then, can they call one have not believed in? and how believe in whom heard? hear without someone preaching to them? preach unless are sent? as it is written, 'how beautiful feet those bring good news!' (romans 10:13-15).< p>
I think there are something like 140 university CUs around the UK that are affiliated with UCCF, so if you’re heading off to university this year, the chances are that there will be one somewhere on your new campus. They’re probably praying right now for people like you to join them in September.
I never realised what CUs actually are until I got to university. They are not just a bunch of Christians meeting up for the fun of it. They are actually outreach teams – people from very different backgrounds and denominations yet united in their love for Christ and in their desire to make him known in the unique mission field called a university or college campus.
So here are a few things to be thinking about before getting to uni:
< get in touch with your cu. they will love to hear from you, i guarantee it. didn't do this because thought might think was a bit weird, but really won't! < p>
< start praying for the people you'll be living with next year. you may not know who they are yet, but god does! will probably non-christians get to best over year and whom have most opportunities share gospel. always bear in mind that must chosen put flat or on corridor a reason! < p>
Get stuck into evangelism. Even in freshers’ week, find out what the CU has got going on, and invite your flatmates to it. Such events are not designed just to unearth more Christians, but will have been organised with non-Christian freshers in mind too.
Freshers’ week is one of the most strategic weeks of the year for CU evangelism, because new students are willing to talk to anyone about anything, and are open to new things. University is such a unique time and opportunity, and it will have gone before you know it!
So make the most of the opportunity God sends your way, and start the year as you mean to go on, taking Peter’s advice:
‘But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behaviour in Christ may be ashamed of their slander’ (1 Peter 3:15-16).
